I bought some green yarn to tie the blanket for my son, (the one I won't let you see.) And I had a lot left over, I figured since I also had a crochet hook somewhere in the house, I would try my hand at crocheting. After watching a series of videos on Youtube, I started this hat...

Since I didn't have enough yarn to finish it, I had to get some more. And I didn't just get enough to finish it, I also got some brown stuff too, and made another hat for the wee little one.

Now I have some left over brown and purple yarn that I will have to crochet something else out of, and there probably isn't enough to finish something and I'll have to get some more, I'll probably be crocheting for the rest of my life now.

Also take note that I take back some of the bad things I've said in the past about crocheting and the people who espouse such an activity.

cute hat, I crocheted a blanket once but that'll never happen again. I wish I knew how to knit.

OK, Pam, let me just say that it says something major about you that you can watch some videos about crocheting and then just up and knit a hat. (And one that actually FITS, at that.) And it says something about me that I've been crocheting for more than 10 years and can only crochet in straight lines.

I'd like to learn how to knit, but I don't have knitting needles yet, I might have to buy some, but I don't know if I'm ready to make that kind of commitment yet.

I'm having a hard time with crocheting straight lines, not really the straight line part, but at the end of the straight line everything gets muddled, I think I need to find a beginners video and figure out what I'm really doing. I looked at a crochet pattern and couldn't figure out what the heck it was saying. It's in some sort of secret code or something and on top of that I'm not very good at following other peoples directions.

I can't follow a crochet pattern to save my life- they actually are written in code.

At the end of the line, just do one more crochet than you want the line to be, then go back into the top of the previous one. That probably makes no sense. It will make sense if you watch the video. The first couple ends of lines look weird, and then it starts to balance out.

Knitting is fairly easy, but it takes a long time, and again, I can only do it in straight lines.
